MARK S. CIAFFAGLIONE, CPA, MST is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in May, 1985, and of the University of Hartford with a Masters of Taxation Degree in January, 1997. Mark, a native of New Britain, Connecticut, joined the firm as a principal in June 2001. His seventeen-plus years in public accounting has provided a solid basis for his current focus in the areas of accounting and taxation for individuals and closely held businesses, with an emphasis on estate and trust planning, administration, taxation, and probate compliance. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, an active member and past director of the Estate and Business Planning Council of Hartford, Inc., a member of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving Professional Advisory Committee; a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants Trust, Estate and Gift Taxation Committee, and a director of the New Britain High School Foundation. Mark lives in Newington with his wife Kati and their two children, Olivia and Robert.
BETH I. GARDNER, CPA is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in May, 1986. A native of South Thomaston, Maine, she was employed by Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC in July 2001. Since obtaining her degree, she has worked in public accounting in the areas of accounting and taxation for individuals and closely held businesses, with an emphasis on estate and trust planning, administration, taxation, and probate compliance. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. She volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford where she is presently serving as Chair of the Audit Committee.
STUART E. MAGDEFRAU, CPA, PFS received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Connecticut in 1976. In 1986, he founded Magdefrau & Rathbun, the predecessor firm to Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC. Prior to 1986, he was a partner in the Hartford accounting firm of Massa and Hinsley. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has served on their technical review task force; the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants where he has chaired numerous committees including Professional Ethics Enforcement and Management of an Account Practice, and served on their Board of Governors. He is a member of the Estate and Business Planning Council of Hartford, Inc.; a Director of Rockville Bank; a Corporator of Eastern Connecticut Health Network; and Treasurer of Ellington Ridge Country Club. He has previously served as a youth soccer coach and a little league coach for the Ellington Recreation Department and as Treasurer of the Vernon Historical Society and the Vernon Dove Corporation. Stu lives in Ellington, Connecticut with his wife Jamy. They have three grown children, Christian, Neal, and Allison.
THERESA L. RENNER, CPA, CVA received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT in 1984. Prior to joining Stuart Magdefrau in public accounting in 1986, she worked in the Investment area of CIGNA. Theresa became a partner in the firm of Magdefrau and Renner, LLC in 1994. Theresa volunteers her time as a member of the business committee for the United Congregational Church of Tolland, director of the Tolland County Chamber of Commerce (also past president 2000-2001), and a member of the business advisory council at Manchester Community College. She is a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Theresa lives in Tolland, Connecticut with her husband, Art and two children, Leah and Neal.
DEE L. WARDROP, CPA received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut in 1989. She started working with Stuart Magdefrau and Theresa Renner in 1989, and continued until 2000 when she took some time off to raise her family. She returned to the firm and public accounting in 2006. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. She lives in Ellington, Connecticut with her husband, Chris and three children, Rachel, Erin, and Kyle.
KENT D. ZAHNER, CPA received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in December 1993, with a major in Accounting and a minor in Management. Kent worked in the investment division of Travelers Corp. and served as Controller of Lighting Management, Inc. prior to his start in public accounting in 1996. He was employed by Magdefrau & Renner LLC in July, 1996. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants.
MIRANDA L. KRUPA - Office Manager received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Asnuntuck Community College in 2003. She was employed by Magdefrau, Renner & Ciaffaglione LLC in October 2006. She lives in Ellington with her husband, Adam, and their two cats Brodie (3) and Munson (3).
